Warm clothing

There was a rabbit sitting on our terrace this morning, March 9, 2005 as I woke up. It seemed to say to all conference participants that it is very wise to have some warm clothing when you stay in this country in winter. I took some photos of the rabbit, and you can see her in a picture on the right. Actually, I have met her many times during this winter. She has become in a way domesticated. But she runs away, of course, when I try to come closer to her.  I will show my photos to my grandchildren who have not seen the rabbit live, yet.
We live about 13 km from the centre of Helsinki. It is a new phenomenon around big cities like Helsinki that wild animals stay in the areas where there are detached houses, or space for their staying. Pheasants and other big birds, or squirrels, are quite ordinary visitors in our yards. When I drive to my school 40 km northwest from home, I sometimes see elks or caribous in the forest, and I prey that they won't jump to the street in front of my car.
