The 9th International Conference
of the
European Schools Project

March 17 - 21, 1995
Cambridge England

INVITATION AND CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

We hereby cordially invite you to participate in the 9th conference of the European Schools Project to be held in Cambridge.

The European Schools Project is a network of schools which originally drew its members from secondary education, but has now been joined by colleagues from Primary and Tertiary institutions. Increasingly schools from outside the EC and Europe are involved In the ESP.

Initiated in 1988 by the University of Amsterdam, participation in ESP has spread to 26 countries with over two-hundred teachers, and thousands of pupils.

Telematics, electronic mail, is the most important medium for co-operation and conversation in ESP. With telematics teachers and pupils perform collaborative distance learning projects on a variety of subjects, using a variety of foreign languages.

These curriculum exchanges are designed and evaluated by the participating teachers, preferably ‘live’ during our annual conferences.

Over the years the annual teacher meetings, (taking place in Grossburgwedel, Copenhagen, Len-ham, Toledo, Schwerte, and Amsterdam), were appreciated by all teachers and other educators who could attend. Although the participants of ESP are connected by telematics throughout the year, the personal face-to-face contacts have proved to be an important extra and very valuable element for designing successful curriculum collaborations.

Therefore, although it is called a conference, its main objectives are to be a educators’ meeting, and an evaluation opportunity to review completed and on-going projects, and to design new ones for the next academic year. In addition many organisational and technological issues related to the ESP, strategies to follow, and co-operation with other international school networks will be discussed.

The agenda will reflect the heightened Interest in the INTERNET and its educational uses. While there will be time for organisational issues to be discussed, the programme for the conference will emphasise four main themes.

The evaluation of projects which ran during 1994-5.

The design and planning of new projects and strategies for the next year.

Presentations on various aspects of computer mediated communications.

The use of the resources of the INTERNET within the school environment.

Of course, there will be plenty opportunities to exchange Ideas, information and demonstration of (new developed) materials and equipment.

The official programme will end Tuesday afternoon March 21.

The conference will take place at one site. We were fortunate to be able to arrange a conference centre near to the historic university of Cambridge.

The Moat House has purpose built conference facilities. It is situated about 8 miles outside of the city.

Conference costs will be 305 stg for a single room or 245 for a shared double. The price includes full meals and use of the hotels facilities and conference literature.
