The 4th ESP Conference Humlebæk and Copenhagen, Denmark, 1990
Introduction
On the 11th and 12th of June 1990 the 4th ESP conference took place in Denmark with 40 participants.
8 Dutch, 10 English, 1 Spanish, 12 Danish, and 2 German schools were represented, besides researchers from the University of Amsterdam, representatives from the local authorities in Fredensborg-Humlebæk Municipality, from the INFA project at the Royal Danish School of Educational Studies in Copenhagen, and the Danish Ministry of Education and Research.
The objectives of the conference were to evaluate successful and failed projects, and to design and plan projects for the academic year of 1990/ 91. During the discussions new ideas, problems, points of attention and suggestions for improvement emerged.
This report from the conference is intended to be a working paper for the participants, but may also - hopefully - serve as a source of information and inspiration for colleagues who are interested in using e-mail in their daily work in the classroom.
A small booklet with the correspondence between students from Augustinus College in Amsterdam and Baunebjergskolen, Fredensborg-Humlebæk, during the project Bild 1, will be published in a separate INFA publication.
The success of the conference is to a large extent due to the fact that the participating teachers - in spite of the very limited time allocated - put so much energy, hard work and great enthusiasm into their work.
Once again it proved worthwhile investing money and time for teachers to meet to exchange ideas and information about their respective school systems and countries, and through this exchange find common ground for a future collaborative work between European schools within a wide range of subjects.
Two new meetings have already been decided upon. One in December 1990 with the object of looking into the various ways of funding the future work in the ESP, and the other a 5th ESP teachers' conference to be held in Kent, UK, April 1991.
